Winch Hole (M13 Wreckage)

The Winch Hole (or M13 Wreckage) is the site of a 19th-century sailing vessel that wrecked within the Molasses Reef Sanctuary Preservation Area. The site takes its name from its signature artifact, a massive iron windlass (winch) once used to raise the vessel's anchors. Resting in 15 to 25 feet of water, the winch and scattered iron fittings are completely integrated into the spectacular reef, surrounded by turtles, eagle rays, and reef fish.
